On August 30, 2009, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, denounced that in Venezuela there was a coup d'etat to try to assassinate him backed by the United States and satellite governments, without any objection or discussion.

“Our century cannot achieve a precedent that the South American countries, the presidents of the South American countries, had met to debate an issue that has to do with a decision that has already been taken by the United States and managed to impose it on Colombia, on one of our countries, that has no precedent, that is, nothing was discussed here, here there were coups d'etat, there were invasions, well right here in Venezuela (...) the Colombian paramilitaries who, with the help of the Colombian government, came here to storm this palace and Kill me, among other things, other trifles,” the Commander reported from the Miraflores Palace.

In that regard, he recalled how the investigations evidenced the involvement of the then president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe, in the paramilitary aggression against Venezuela. In addition, he warned that Colombian soldiers preparing for the aggression began intelligence and counterintelligence work in Venezuela with the story that they were workers on horse farms.
