The Special Commission for the Promotion of Consultation of the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence held a meeting at the Federal Legislative Palace with representatives of non-governmental organizations, with the objective of receiving contributions and technical documents that strengthen the legislative initiative.
The president of the commission, Deputy Jorge Arreaza, stressed that the day was extraordinary because of the quality of the proposals received. “We want this to be an important sign that we must insist and never abandon the dialogue.”
In this regard, he stressed that the commission is in permanent session and has already collected proposals from organs of the justice system and the People's Power.
During the meeting, Óscar Murillo (Provea), Lilia Camejo (Venezuelan Justice), Gonzalo Himiob (Criminal Forum), Ali Daniels (Access to Justice) and Omar de Dios García (Clippve) took part, who provided documents with observations and suggestions on the provisions of the law.
Arreaza urged Venezuelans to move towards national union and supported the proposal to integrate NGOs into the Committee on Internal Policy to review legal codes. “We must reach consensus to consolidate, united, the peace and sovereignty of Venezuela for the years to come,” he said.
The vice-president of the commission, MP Nora Bracho, expressed her satisfaction with the day and thanked the presence of human rights defenders.
“Despite our differences and visions, we must always find common ground. This law will guide us towards a future framed by respect for the Constitution, laws, due process and, of course, respect for citizens,” he concluded.
