The president of the Communist Party of Chile (PC), Lautaro Carmona, took a stand and distanced himself from the position taken by President Gabriel Boric, after the validation of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), to the victory of the president, Nicolás Maduro, whom Gabriel Boric has not recognized.
Carmona, assured that unlike what the Chilean president said in recent days, in Venezuela there is a separation of powers. “We are very clear.”
Here is the full statement:
Minutes after the sayings of the president of the CP, the party's statement on the matter was published through X. In it, several points were highlighted and the international community was urged to “refrain from adopting positions that could promote a climate of confrontation” in the Caribbean country.
First, the letter states that the store reaffirms that “Chile's foreign policy is conducted by the head of state and we fully respect that prerogative.” At the same point, he mentions that “we will evaluate all the instances and paths that allow us, as a country, to be contributors to overcoming the crisis”.
Secondly, it states that “as a left-wing political force, we are a party deeply committed to the respect and sovereignty of peoples” and “in the face of the election held on July 28 in Venezuela, we welcome the fact that the electoral process was lived in a civic climate and in peace. Today we insist and advocate that a peaceful solution to the crisis should prevail.”
“With the same conviction that we defend respect for the sovereignty of peoples and the paths that Venezuelans define to resolve their conflicts, it is important to stress that Venezuela has been the subject of unilateral economic sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies, which have been denounced and rejected by the United Nations due to its flagrant violation of international law and its devastating impact on the country's internal situation, including the mass exodus of Venezuelans”, reveals the third point.
On the other hand, the statement states that he from the CP urges “the international community to refrain from adopting positions that could promote a climate of confrontation in Venezuela, which exacerbates the crisis to extreme levels. Any solution must be within the framework of unrestricted respect for human rights. Peace and respect for the popular will, expressed at the ballot box, are fundamental to the resolution of the conflict that Venezuela is experiencing today.”
Finally, he states that the CP vindicates “its unwavering commitment to democracy, pluralism and human rights” and makes “a call not to lose sight of the serious situation affecting the population of our own country, which requires urgent answers.
