The Minister of the People's Power of Urban Agriculture recognized the work of the agro-urban community members of the Carayaca parish, who have fulfilled their commitments to cancel biofinancing, contributing to the development of Urban Agriculture in the city, and highlighted the state's potential to promote this activity.
During the broadcast of the 12th edition of the “Cafecito Agrourban”, carried out from Catia La Mar, Vargas municipality in the state of La Guaira, Carrillo, pointed out that in Carayaca, producers have a center for the collection and distribution of their items, where they contribute to social care such as the School Food Program (PAE) and food houses. “That allows them to have resources to continue growing.”
The minister also highlighted the importance of training producers. “We have an agro-urban route that is adaptable to each state and to the reality that each space has. This guide allows us to identify that there are producers who are not linked to any institution or organization. On the fourth level of the route, we can certify in training. There are producers who want to finish their high school; others who want to improve their production technique, we saw it here in La Guaira”.
The owner of the agro-urban portfolio announced the installation of a planting house at the Hidrocapital facilities, located in Catia La Mar, in collaboration with the Venezuelan Corporation for Urban and Periurban Agriculture (Cvaup), an entity attached to the Minppau and the Ministry of Industry.
Strengthening the organization to increase production and distribution
Tomy Alvarado, director of the Institute for Agrarian and Rural Development of La Guaira, reaffirmed the Regional Government's commitment to Agrifood Development, following the guidelines of President Nicolás Maduro and Governor Alejandro Terán. He highlighted the organization of the Agricultural People's Power, through communes, communal and peasant councils, and mentioned the organization of 71 peasant councils.
He emphasized the importance of working together for the success of the sector, highlighting three challenges, including the monitoring and control of public policies, the increase of production for local and national consumption and the guarantee of the right to agri-food development enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Production in La Guaira
Anail Jaspe, a community member of the Carayaca parish, thanked the Minppau for the support provided. “Here we are, a group of those who were financed on March 3, and well, we paid 100% of the dues, also through the collection of the items we produce.” The spokeswoman explained that they were brought to the distribution and marketing center, to fulfill all their funding.
In addition, Tuly Cabrera, agronomist and director of Agrosovereignty at the Mayor's Office of the Vargas municipality, highlighted the work of the municipal nursery in the historic center, who are dedicated to training veterinary medicine students, agricultural technicians, agronomists and farmers. “We are teaching them new methods of production, how to manage and increase it; we are also on a genetics project, talking about the importance of the seeds and the animals that we are bringing to the municipality.”
Manos a la Sowing: Training for the Future
César Leal, producer and liaison trainer of the program All Hands to Sowing, emphasized the importance of the seed as a basis for the future. “Seeds are like children to whom we give experience so that they can multiply,” Leal explained. “With them, we promote planting in all institutions to build a better future.”
He also highlighted the need for planting in schools. “It's a way to transform the routine lives of children, we can say that the future will be better thanks to this. There are teachers who are committed to this initiative and teach children. It is a chain that is expanding and every day we see the changes, which are already evident”.
The owner of the agro-urban portfolio, Jhoanna Carrillo, concluded the program with the delivery of financial solvency certificates, which accredit producers in Carayaca for a second phase of pilot funding, with the Ministry of Urban Agriculture, to continue with the country's agri-food development.
