The National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL)
coordinated a working group with the country's main operators to
define actions to restore telephone and internet services
in the state of La Guaira, following the damages caused by the earthquakes of last Wednesday.
According to information from Radio Nacional de
Venezuela, the conference stated that the reactivation of services must
involve a review and application of contingency plans, the
verification of the effects on the network infrastructure and the willingness
of each company to provide operational solutions using platforms that were not damaged.
In this regard, the CEO of CONATEL,
Enrique Quintana, proposed the formation of a unified
emergency network and urged companies to put their technical and
logistical capacities at the service of the recovery plan.
“We can be coordinators to
support them; if they require priority access to any area, security to
work, or coordination with CORPOELEC or any institution, CONATEL is there
to link and resolve them,” he said and reiterated the request to guarantee
free access to telecommunications services in affected areas,
with the purpose of facilitating communication between the population and their families and access to information during the contingency
.
In addition,
representatives of the operators Canaemte, Casetel, Asotel, Cantv,
Movilnet, Digitel, Movistar, Netuno Telecommunications, Inter, Simple
Telecommunications, Lumen Technologies and Thundernet, expressed their
willingness to work in a coordinated manner to restore communications,
although they pointed out that the work is being carried out with difficulty because part of the affected infrastructure is in areas where rescue operations continue.
As a temporary
measure, while network recovery work progresses, it
was agreed to integrate satellite internet services with mobile telephony to
ensure the sending of text messages and maintain basic connectivity in the impacted
areas.
The meeting confirmed the joint work between State institutions and companies in the sector to accelerate the recovery of telecommunications services and serve affected communities in La Guaira.
