The South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) has designated Venezuela as the host of the South American Under-17 Men's Championship.

The tournament will be held in the state capital Guarico, in San Juan de los Morros from October 11 to 17 of this year, according to the Ministry of Sport press.

The information was confirmed by the governor of Guárico and president of the Venezuelan federation of this sport, José Manuel Vásquez.

Velásquez asserted that this designation not only represents a significant boost for youth volleyball in the country, it also marks the beginning of a new phase in the development of this sport, in line with the route to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.

He also recalled that this opportunity to host an international volleyball event had not occurred since 2010, when the José María Vargas dome in La Guaira hosted the South American event for the men's under-19 category.

On that occasion Argentina won the gold medal, Brazil won silver and Venezuela won bronze.

Currently, five athletes have been called up for the men's Under-17 shortlist: Víctor Canache (Guárico), Benjamín García (Lara), Osmar Guillén (Táchira), Sebastián Hernández and Julio César Calles (Miranda).

They are all part of the permanent 2025 concentration that has been taking place at the IND's Gastón Portillo Gymnasium since February, as part of their preparation for the competition calendar.

The selection of the remaining players will take into account the emerging talent that emerges in the U15 National Championship, which ends this Monday in Valera, Trujillo.
