The Democratic congressman of the United States, Ted Lieu, urged the Armed Forces of that country to disobey the “illegal order” in the event that the Donald Trump administration orders an attack on Greenland.

Greenland is part of Denmark, a NATO ally. If Trump orders the Army to attack Greenland without congressional approval, it would be an illegal order. They will disobey this illegal order. His oath is before the Constitution, not before Trump,” said the member of Congress for California's 36th district, addressing the military, reports the Sputnik agency.

For several months, Trump and members of his team have expressed in different ways the interest of the United States in this Danish territory, a strategic ally within NATO.

Since Copenhagen, Danish authorities have warned that a possible annexation of Greenland would represent, in practice, the end of the Atlantic Alliance.

Faced with Trump's threats, leaders of the five parties represented in the Greenland Parliament issued a joint statement rejecting repeated statements by U.S. President Donald Trump about the possibility of Washington taking control of the island. “We don't want to be Americans, we don't want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders,” the text states.
