Consulate General of Venezuela in Bilbao suspends public service due to infrastructure damage

The Consulate General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Bilbao, Basque Country, reported the suspension of public service since last Monday, October 13, due to damage to the infrastructure of the diplomatic headquarters.

In a statement, the Venezuelan Consulate explained that “a significant leak of the upper floor of the building, where the consular headquarters is located, caused damage to the infrastructure (...) significantly affecting walls, ceilings, floors, electrical system and computer equipment.”

It also states that consular material was affected; however, most of the files could be protected. “Since last weekend, we have been actively coordinating with the competent authorities to diagnose damage and manage timely solutions. Together with the authorities of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs and the Venezuelan State, responses are being coordinated with the objective of offering the necessary guidance to our compatriots in these exceptional moments”, highlights the official document.

In this regard, it urges compatriots in the European country to direct their procedures and requests to the Venezuelan Consular Offices located in Barcelona, the Canary Islands, Madrid and Vigo. “Finally, we want to send a message of serenity to our compatriots. Rest assured that the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs and its Consulate are taking all necessary steps and steps to successfully reactivate consular operations,” the statement confirms.
