Thanks to teamwork between the different State security forces, in 2024, the crime rate in the state of Táchira was reduced by 20%, as highlighted by Chief Commissioner Wilman José Rivera Torres, director of PolitÁchira.
“We have significant numbers in terms of statistics achieved working as a team with ZODI, Zonal 21, which has left us with good statistics as a positive result throughout 2024, achieving a reduction in crime in Táchira between 15 and 20 percent,” Rivera Torres said in statements given to the newspaper Última Noticias.
These figures are more relevant when considering the geographical position, since it is a dynamic border entity, with a high flow of people who transit through this area on a massive and constant basis, “we have managed to keep crime at bay,” said Rivera Torres.
Personal injury, as a result of domestic violence, is one of the crimes that unfortunately grew slightly, “it affects us because when the complaints arrive, aggression has already been generated. Many cases are arguments between couples, family members, a situation that makes their control complex, in addition to the fact that campaigns and important work for prevention have been generated.”
He explained that to date, a year ago there were 383 personal injuries and this year it was 416. When there was a reduction in homicides, from 29 in 2023, to 25 in 2024.
Petty theft, which marks the theft of cell phones, vehicle mirrors and others, increased from 325 to 219, that is, almost one hundred fewer crimes compared to the previous year. Vehicle theft dropped from 86 to 71. While the number of kidnappings remains at zero.
