This Sunday, the network of the National Seismological Service of Cuba recorded a seismic movement of magnitude 5.6 in the eastern region of the country at 7:00 in the morning (local time), detailed on its website.
They have also announced that the epicenter was located at a depth of 7.1 kilometers and was located 24 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Imías, in Guantánamo.
After the significant earthquake that woke up the inhabitants, preliminary reports from the Civil Defense rule out the loss of human life or material damage.
It is known that rescue teams and civil authorities have begun tours of the areas closest to the epicenter to assess the state of the infrastructure.
The perception of the phenomenon quickly spread to Santiago de Cuba and the nickel-producing municipality of Moa, in the province of Holguín.
Although the European Mediterranean Seismological Center did not adjust its initial measurement to 5.5, the Cuban technical service confirmed the official magnitude of 5.6. After the earthquake, experts confirmed that there are no conditions for issuing tsunami alerts on the eastern coasts.
