The Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) strongly condemned the threat of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to impose a naval blockade against Venezuela, with the ultimate objective of controlling the natural wealth of the Latin American country.
In a statement, the ICAP denounced the dangerous escalation of U.S. military aggression and called on the international community to take action in defense of sovereignty, peace and the Charter of the United Nations.
The following is the full text of the press release:
The Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) strongly condemns the threat of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to impose a naval blockade against Venezuela.
This action constitutes the practical application of the “Trump Corollary” to the Monroe Doctrine, explicitly summarized in the National Security Strategy for Our America. The pretext of combating drug trafficking and terrorism proves once again to be a cover to justify totally illegal actions that violate regional and world peace.
We denounce this hybrid war maneuver, which escalates aggression to a dangerous military level with the ultimate objective of controlling Venezuela's natural wealth and unilaterally coercing a sovereign state.
The ICAP reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the legitimate government of President Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan people. We call on the international community: social movements, peace defenders, parliaments, governments and international organizations to reject this rude imperial act and take action in defense of sovereignty, peace and the Charter of the United Nations.
No to the naval blockade! No to imperialist plunder! Hands Off Venezuela!
