Geopolitical conditions and illegal sanctions against oil-producing countries represent a threat to the world's energy security, said the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.

“There are challenges and threats to energy security... geopolitical conditions, illegal sanctions against producer countries. Today, 25% of the world's daily production is under sanctions, unilateral coercive measures that somehow disrupt future investment mechanisms,” he said during his participation in the Energy Panel of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.

In this regard, he stressed that Venezuela advocates respect for the energy trilemma, energy security, energy equity and environmental impact so that humanity marches on an equal footing.

“Today, equality is seriously compromised by the imbalance between the north and the south. We want energy access to be for all countries, for all peoples, that the peoples of Africa can participate in innovative mechanisms and we advocate that the energy transition constitutes true hope for humanity,” he emphasized.

As a second point, Rodríguez left the concern that was increasingly studied, about the need to “break with the hegemony of the dollar”. He said that the topic has been present in many discussions, including those that take place within the BRICS countries.

He proposed that “energy trade can take place between national currencies or with the establishment of alternative financial mechanisms”.
