The President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, commemorated 207 years of the Battle of Boyacá, a military confrontation that marked the end of Spanish rule in New Granada and secured the nation's independence.
He also specified that this Battle “represents a decisive chapter in the emancipatory feat of our America”, while specifying that “today we honor the victory of the Liberation Army, led by Father Simon Bolivar, which sealed the independence of New Granada and reaffirmed the dream of a united, free and sovereign Great Homeland”.
“On August 7, 1819, under the command of 2,850 patriots, the Liberator Simon Bolivar inflicted a decisive and important defeat against the royalist troops of Colonel José María Barreiro, achieving, in addition to the emancipation of Colombia, an important step forward for the withdrawal of the Spanish from Venezuela and the liberation of South America,” Con El Mazo Dando reported.
