The president of the Commission for the Defense of Guiana Esequibo and deputy of the National Assembly (AN), Hermann Escarrà, explained that the new legislation reflects the five questions of the Consultative Referendum of December 03, 2023, which reaffirmed Venezuela's commitment to the Geneva Agreement and the rejection of any incursion by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
During an interview on the 360° program, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, he emphasized the documentary wealth of Venezuela that supports his claim, based on international law and history since the creation of the Captaincy General.
“Guyana has no valid legal arguments about the international rights of the Essequibo, while Venezuela has a solid documentary base that extends from the Constitution of 1919 of the Liberator to the present day,” he argued.
Therefore, he reiterated that Venezuela will not accept the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice in this matter.
Escarrà also denounced the lack of documentation on the part of Guyana to support its rights to the Essequibo and at this point, stressed that Venezuela does not recognize any document that is outside the Geneva Agreement, which maintains a firm position in the defense of its historical rights to the territory.
On the other hand, he reported on development in the region, which includes the construction of more than 110 homes and the progress of Petrleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) Esequibo projects.
He stated that these actions highlight Venezuela's continuous effort to strengthen its presence and improve the quality of life in the Guayana Esequiba state.
