The head of the Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, reported that the man who sexually harassed President Claudia Sheinbaum was arrested Tuesday night, according to the Russia Today website,

“We will proceed as required by law. Today we reaffirm our commitment to zero tolerance for violence against women. Harassment has no place in this city. If they touch one of us, they touch all of us,” the official warned in a message on X.

The magazine Proceso published the official arrest record stating that the man's name is Uriel Rivera Martínez and has a slim build, 1.60 meters tall, a dark complexion and short black hair.

At the time of the capture, the man was wearing a white t-shirt and black pants and shoes; and was housed in the Office of the Prosecutor for the Investigation of Sexual Crimes.

Rivera Martínez came up from behind Sheinbaum, hugged her, kissed her on the cheek and touched her breasts. The attack occurred in a matter of seconds and was recorded by the cameras that followed Sheinbaum. Upon realizing the situation, one of his escorts withdrew the man.

Presenting the initiative during the presidential conference, the Secretary for Women, Citlalli Hernández, specified that one of the objectives is to reduce the judicial route of complaints of harassment to strengthen the protection of women and speed up proceedings against aggressors.

To this end, she said, it is necessary for public ministries, judges and judges to act with a gender perspective and sensitivity to victims.

He recalled that any non-consensual sexual act, groping or obscene touching is considered sexual abuse; when the victim is forced to show his body or witness a sexual act, and if there are touches that represent explicitly sexual acts or force the victim to represent them.
