With a
21-kilometer pilgrimage full of faith and devotion, devotees celebrated 334 years of
Our Lady of Charity of Copper, walking from the Las Palmas sector of the Juan Germán Roscio Nieves municipality, in the state of Guárico, to the municipality of San Sebastián de los Reyes, in the
state of Aragua.
For more than three
centuries, locals and visitors have been participating in this religious event as a
sign of gratitude for the favors granted. The devotees assure that
Our Lady of Charity intercedes before God for the healing of diseases,
as well as for requests for work, family well-being and collective peace, which
makes this pilgrimage one of the most significant expressions of faith in the region, according to a note from
Venezolana de Televisión.
Among
the walkers is Miriam Díaz, a devotee for 18 years, who
travels the journey every year with her family. He said that, after the
healthy birth of his daughter, he assumed this promise as an act of permanent gratitude.
“Faith moves me every year. Our little virgin continues to fulfill us and this
year I also asked for my country, so that we are in peace and my grandchildren grow up in
a quiet country,” he said.
For her part, Carmen Guerra, 22, assured that she has been on a pilgrimage for three
years in gratitude for a favor granted. “Every January 21st, we renew our
faith. Seeing so many testimonies strengthens me spiritually and I want to transmit
this feeling to my children, so that they know that there is a God who listens and a
Virgin who intercedes for us,” he said.
During the day, the Government of Guárico State deployed a
multidisciplinary team along the way, offering hydration and food to pilgrims.
In addition, the public security and
Civil Protection agencies guaranteed protection and medical care, in a celebration that
every year brings together more faithful and consolidates San Juan de los Morros as a reference point
for the Catholic faith in the entity.
