This Sunday, December 14, the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, urged the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) to unity and work together to bury the aggression that the United States maintains today against Latin America and the Caribbean.

“We must become, without delay, the gravediggers of the U.S. military, political and economic aggression that is looming over all of Latin America and the Caribbean,” he said in the framework of the 25th ALBA-TCP Virtual Summit.

In this regard, he reaffirmed that, if arbitrary exclusions and aggressions against Peoples continue to be accepted, true Latin American and Caribbean integration will be extremely difficult, stressing that imperialism and the national oligarchies of the countries of the region are betting on the spent resource of “divide and conquer”.

He also referred to the threats of imperialism against Venezuela, stressing that they are unprecedented. At the same time, he condemned the deployment of the United States (USA) in the Caribbean.

“They shamelessly display (..) gunboat diplomacy. The new US national security strategy, last November, incorporates an even more aggressive and offensive approach to that old but very dangerous doctrine. Latin America and the Caribbean is not a backyard or even anyone's front yard. We are sovereign states,” he said.

He pointed out that the naval deployment is exaggerated and unjustified, and he also indicated that it reveals a hegemonic and criminal purpose that should alert all the peoples and governments of the continent.”

He also denounced the recent assault and seizure of an oil tanker by US military forces. “We strongly condemn this vile act of piracy and theft of the resources of the Venezuelan people, which constitutes a serious violation of international law against goods in the principles of freedom of navigation and free trade and harms not only Venezuela but the international community as a whole,” he said.

He also took the opportunity to reiterate the demand to lift the blockade that the United States has against Cuba, which since 2019 has reached extreme levels, becoming increasingly cruel and inhumane.
