The crime rate in the country currently stands at 1.92 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, one of the lowest in the world, said Diosdado Cabello Rondón, the sector's vice-president for Politics, Public Security and Peace.
During a press conference held this Monday, he explained that 229 fewer homicides have been recorded to date, compared to last year. “In Caracas, it was common for 30 people to die on a weekend. That was in the 80s, 90s when they killed here for a pair of shoes; there is a record of that in all the media,” he said.
In this regard, he pointed out that the National Government maintains the deployment of the security agencies of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) to guarantee peace in our territory. “Peace hurts them (the right),” he emphasized, while indicating that the deployment of more than 15,000 security personnel in the states of Táchira and Zulia seeks to ensure peace in the country and the protection of our sovereignty.
On the other hand, referring to the high-caliber arsenal seized last week in El Hatillo, Miranda state, he said that it was mostly American-made.
