Discussion in Yaracuy highlighted the ancient legacy of Wayuu fabric

The discussion “Demonstration of the Legacy
of Wayuu Fabric” highlighted the cultural and ancient value of this tradition,
during an activity held at the Red Art Store-Bookstores of the South of the Carmelo Fernández
Museum, in San Felipe, Yaracuy state.
According to information from
the Ministry for Culture, the activity was carried out by the artisan and dance
teacher Rigoberto Anzola, who explained that the pieces made by
this indigenous people represent stories and experiences of their cosmology through geometric figures.
Before
artisans and embroiderers, Anzola warned about the transformation of these traditional
practices due to the industrial production and commercial use of Wayuu designs, stressing
the importance of preserving their methods and original meaning.
The discussion was organized by
the Red Art Foundation, attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for
Culture, together with the Ministerial Cabinet for Culture of Yaracuy, the Institute
for Culture of the Yaracuy State (ICEY) and the Southern Library.
