The general director of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC), Douglas Rico, presented an assessment of the progress achieved in the optimization of criminal investigation teams and the training of the human resources of the police investigation body, which will allow the clarification of all types of cases in the best possible way.

In a note published on the Instagram account of the Ministry of People's Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, he points out that during the radio program “CICPC al Dia”, Rico explained that among the optimization projects in criminal investigation, the Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS) is being developed, through which fingerprints, faces and irises of the eyes of the person who they may be involved in a punishable action.

He also highlighted that technological advances have been made for facial biometric investigations, which will allow the identification of a person who is passing through a certain place.

He noted that the CICPC is very close to having a “Voice Recognition System”, which will make it easier to determine if a person, through their voice, is involved in a crime.

“Especially in the area of kidnapping and extortion, this mechanism is widely used for research. Once we obtain the location of a person who is presumed to be making extortive calls to a victim, either to collect a ransom in connection with kidnapping or to request money from a person in order to cause harm,” he said.

Rico also highlighted that the CICPC is making progress in the database project of the DNA laboratory of the Scientific Police, since this mechanism is vital for the scientific demonstration of the identification of a person who committed a crime and also for specifying the specific place where the offending person executed the punishable act.

On this topic, he stressed that this novel technological system will also make it possible to identify people who have been victims of a catastrophe or some type of accident.
