This Tuesday, the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), Marlon Vargas, denounced to the Legislature what he described as acts of state repression, abuses and violations of human rights in the context of a national strike.
According to detailed information from Prensa Latina, Vargas appeared before the Human Rights Commission of the National Assembly, where videos were screened on social networks that evidenced the alleged violations during the last week's protests.
The leader asked legislators to initiate impeachment proceedings against the Ministers of Defense, Gian Carlo Loffredo, and of the Interior, John Reimberg, for their alleged responsibility for the acts of violence during the demonstrations.
Accompanied by the vice-president of CONAIE, Ercilia Castañeda, they asked the Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, to be held to account for the arbitrary arrests and the State crime against Efraín Fuerez, who died last Sunday after being shot in a demonstration.
“As long as the rank and file of all peoples and nationalities do not authorize us otherwise, the strike continues,” he told the media after leaving the Legislature.
