This Monday, thousands of indigenous community members and social organization activists are active and mobilized in a day of national strike against the latest decisions of the neoliberal government of Daniel Noboa.
The main objective of the measure of force is to demand the repeal of Executive Decree 126, issued by President Noboa, which eliminated the diesel subsidy and set its price at USD 2.80 until the end of December of the same year.
They require the Executive to annul the decision to increase value added tax or VAT from 12 to 15%. They also demand a decent budget for health, education and security, at a time when fiscal adjustments translate into an unprecedented health and security crisis.
The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), the largest social organization in the country, denounced the fact on its social networks violent incursions by the public forces and the development of a “brutal repression” against those mobilized.
