In Ecuador, the vile assassination of Kichwa leader Efraín Fuerez reveals the violence carried out by the government of Daniel Noboa against popular mobilizations, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) denounced this Monday at a press conference.
The meeting began with a minute of silence in memory of the member of the Inguinzala community, who lost his life due to state repression in Cotacachi, province of Imbabura, Telesur said.
The leaders of indigenous communities held the State directly responsible for the human rights violations that occurred during the days of protest and demanded that the death of the community member be investigated.
In his speech, Alberto Ainaguano, president of the Confederation of Peoples of the Kichwa Nationality (ECUARUNARI), rejected attempts to criminalize the indigenous movement and repudiated the policies of the Executive
“We are not terrorists, we are native peoples,” said the leader of ECUARUNARI, who asserted that fighting decisions are built collectively.
He stressed that “never in the structure of the indigenous movement do two, three, four people decide. To make every decision, people, organizations and nationalities are listened to”
