The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador approved this Wednesday, the 14th, the Popular Consultation and the Referendum proposed by President Daniel Noboa and will be held next Sunday, April 21.

In a press release, published on the Ecuadorian CNE website, it reports that the Plenary of the electoral body approved the electoral calendar and declared the beginning of the electoral process of the Referendum and Popular Consultation 2024.

According to the approved schedule, Ecuadorians will go to the polls on Sunday, April 21, 2024, to decide on 11 questions: Amendment to the text of Article 158 of the Constitution of the Republic; six Popular Consultation questions and four Referendum questions, proposed by the President of the Republic, Daniel Noboa Azin.

It points out that subsequently, the electoral body will approve the guidelines, operational plan, budget, as well as the risk and contingency matrix for this democratic process.

For its part, the Telesur portal indicates that the electoral roll for these elections will include registration updates until January 20, 2024, according to the CNE.

The Ecuadorian president's proposal attempts to militarize some points of the national territory, even though the questions are limited to areas close to centers of deprivation of liberty.

In the same way, the questions prepared by Noboa intend a section on people deprived of their liberty and the serving of their entire sentence within the social rehabilitation center.

In addition, various issues are addressed, including the extradition of Ecuadorians, the establishment of specialized judiciaries in constitutional matters and the recognition by the Ecuadorian State of international arbitration as a method for resolving investment, contractual or commercial disputes.
