Edymar Brea won silver in the 5,000 meters flat at the Central American Games

In a great demonstration of strength, strategy and resistance, Venezuelan long-distance runner Edymar Brea won the silver medal in the 5,000 flat meters at the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026.
At the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, Brea maintained a solid pace throughout the race to get into the top of the competition and close with a powerful shot, which earned her second place on the podium with a time of 16:59.67.
The gold medal went to the Cuban Anisleidis Ochoa with two seconds less than the Venezuelan (16:57.67), while the third place went to the Mexican Dafne Juárez in 17:00.45.
This is Brea's first podium in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
