Egypt announced today the holding on March 4 of an Arab summit in support of Palestine and to rebuild Gaza, Prensa Latina reported, citing local media.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that Cairo will host the emergency meeting, after several days of intense contacts in the Middle East on the subject amid regional criticism of the American proposal to expel the inhabitants of the territory.

Initially, the meeting was scheduled for February 27, but on Sunday, the Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, specified that it would be delayed for a few days due to logistical problems.

The regional press pointed out that the summit is a response to the initiative of the US President, Donald Trump, to expel the inhabitants of the coastal enclave on the grounds of rebuilding it.

Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and the rest of the Arab nations condemned the project in harsh terms, considering it a violation of international laws and norms.

Faced with this situation, the authorities of this North African country outlined a plan that would allow the reconstruction of Gaza without expelling the more than two million Palestinians who live there.

Precisely, Zaki explained that the emergency summit aims to establish a strong and unified Arab position on the Palestinian cause, particularly in response to Israeli and American schemes.

In recent weeks, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reiterated his rejection of the displacement of the population of the Strip and insisted on maintaining the truce and creating a Palestinian state.

During meetings with several statesmen and world figures in recent days, the president ratified the position of his Government, supported by all his Arab neighbors.

It's an injustice that we can't participate in, El-Sisi said in response to the White House project.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced last week that it will also host an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation to address the same issue, following the Arab League meeting.
