Eje del Buen Vivir dresses up in tradition to celebrate the May Cross Memorial this Sunday

This Sunday, May 3, the feast of the Holy Cross of May is celebrated and the Axis of Good Living represents one of the scenarios to offer various activities framed in tradition, for the enjoyment of the public free of charge.

At the Eje del Buen Vivir, located in Bellas Artes, attendees will be able to enjoy a program that integrates ancient knowledge, creative workshops and musical expressions, from 10:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night. Over the course of the day, they will also have the opportunity to visit an artisanal market organized by the Red Art Foundation.

The day begins at 10:00 in the morning with a series of workshops focused on identity and manual arts. The National Museums Foundation (FMN) will offer spaces for origami, painting and printing, while artisan Richard Mendoza and the Venezuelan Wristband Movement will hold ceramic and flower making sessions on fabric. A key moment will be the palm weaving workshop led by Luisa Pérez Madriz “Luisin”, aimed at preparing the costumes for the Santa Cruz.

Starting at 1:00 in the afternoon, the cultors will begin assembling the altar, followed by a discussion about the tradition, ritual and songs of this holiday. The afternoon will continue with practical training in making crosses with cinnamon sticks and the extension of artistic activities for girls, boys and adults, in order to prepare the environment for the transition to ceremonial acts.

The closing of the event, between 5:00 in the afternoon and 8:00 at night, will be marked by the feeling of the wake, the tenths and the ringing of the drum. Prominent poets and groups such as the UNEM Magistral Ensemble (acronym for the “Samuel Robinson” National Experimental University of Teaching) and the Songoytura Group will raise their songs before the closing ritual entitled “Lend Me Your Cross”, which will put an end to this encounter of faith and popular Venezuelan culture.

This initiative is organized by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC) and its affiliated entities such as the Art Network, National Museums and Cultural Mission foundations. Together, they join forces to keep alive one of the richest events on the national holiday calendar.

The invitation is for Caracas families and visitors to come to Bellas Artes this Sunday to pay tribute to the Cross, ask for good harvests and enjoy a space for peaceful citizen coexistence.
