The European Commission (EC) proposed increasing taxes on Israel's exports, as part of the sanctions package in response to the Zionist regime's aggression against the Gaza Strip.
“We all agree that the situation in Gaza continues to go in the wrong direction. We must take advantage of the tools at our disposal to pressure the Israeli Government to change course,” Kaja Kallas, vice-president of the EC, told the media.
In its proposal, the executive body of the European Union also contemplated sanctioning Itamar Ben-Gvir, responsible for National Security, and Bezalel Smotrich, responsible for Finance, both officials of the government of the questioned Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
If approved, the trade measures would increase the cost of some Israeli imports, mainly of agricultural origin, by about 227 million euros.
