The European Union (EU) made the decision to suspend negotiations on the trade agreement with the United States. This measure comes as a direct response to President Donald Trump's announcement about the imposition of new tariffs against nations that support Greenland's sovereignty.

In this regard, the president of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, confirmed that the majority block of the European Parliament will block any progress in the bilateral project until further notice.

Brussels' main argument, as reported by Venezolana de Televisión, lies in the impossibility of diplomacy under schemes of unilateral pressure. According to Weber, the aggressive tariffs of the Washington administration nullifies the conditions necessary for the reduction of rates on U.S. products.

For the European bloc, stability and mutual respect constitute the basis of every economic pact, elements that today are absent in the transatlantic relationship.

This blockade represents a critical breaking point in the history of cooperation between the two powers. Unexpectedly, Greenland's territorial status became the trigger for a potential trade war on a global scale. The European decision shows that the Union will not give in to coercive policies, even if this means renouncing large economic benefits in the short term.

The European Parliament's firm stance marks the beginning of a period of uncertainty for international markets. The EU prioritizes defending its political autonomy and that of its allies against Trump's territorial claims. In this way, the future of commercial exchanges between the Old Continent and Washington is subject to a radical change in the White House's rhetoric.
