The Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CELARG) will open its doors to host the 2nd International Poetry Book Fair (EXPOESÍA), which starts next Thursday, November 20 and ends Sunday, November 23.

In this regard, the sectoral vice-president of communication and culture, Freddy Ñáñez, indicated that this second EXPOETRY “is an invitation for Venezuelans to open the doors to international publishers, to perceive the beauty of Venezuelan poetry.”

For his part, the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, stressed that the event will serve to show Venezuela as a country where there are true poets.

“While some threaten with missiles, we respond with flowers and verses, and that is no small fact,” he said.

He also stressed that Venezuela maintains the development of cultural activities in any situation. At the same time, he expressed his interest in making EXPOETRY a permanent cultural space, as well as the Venezuelan International Book Fair (FILVEN).

The initiative will have a group of invited countries, in particular, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Honduras, Iran, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.

The event will also feature national cultural figures and initiatives as honorees, including the television program The Media Library. 26 international publishers and seven from Venezuela will also be presented, together with the presentation of 48 books.

The activities that will be carried out include the exhibition and sale of catalogs from each publisher, presentation of books, forums and talks, promotion of reading, poetry recitals, literary creation workshops, and exhibition of traditional publishers in Venezuela.
