By the month of May, the partial reform of the Law on the Promotion and Protection of Breastfeeding, developed by the Standing Committee on Families, Freedom of Religion and Worship of the National Assembly, will be completed.

The information was released this Wednesday by the first vice-president of the commission, Deputy María Rosa Jiménez, who added that, once completed, it will be handed over to Parliament for its second discussion, since it was approved in a first debate.

Jiménez explained during the sixth meeting of the commission that this reform will not eliminate existing benefits, but rather that it protects the principles and benefits guaranteed by this law. In addition, it will reinforce the promotion of a culture in society that defends breastfeeding.

The reform is being worked on four pillars: legal protection, promotion of breastfeeding, support (infrastructure and resources) and support for nursing mothers to maintain the benefits of the law.

The president of the Family Commission, Deputy Jorge Arreaza, received the arguments and proposals of the reform, and stressed that this legal instrument is essential for the protection of the home and infants.

At the beginning of the meeting, teacher and teacher Carmen Cubillos reflected on Venezuelan families. On this topic, he stressed that social networks must be viewed “carefully”. He added: “The task of parents and schools is to care for the values and principles of families (...) Social networks are generating addiction and distorting values.”

In turn, Deputy Arreaza ruled that, although technology is a tool for development, it has become a factor that has been generating pressure and changes in the Venezuelan family.

On the other hand, the Commission made a report by the work teams that design the Family Code.

Arreaza urged us to consider the LOPNNA and to evaluate the points that must be codified for the protection of the family.
