More than 1.2 million people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank faced critical levels of acute food insecurity between April and June 2026, warned the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), based on the indicators of the Integrated Classification of Food Security Phases.
The multilateral organization projected a progressive deterioration in access to food during the second half of the year, attributed to the devastating impact of the blockade and military operations of the Zionist state of Israel on the Palestinian productive apparatus and agricultural areas.
Faced with the seriousness of the humanitarian scenario, FAO required a fund of 140.9 million dollars for the implementation of the emergency agricultural response plan in 2027, an input considered essential to restore rural livelihoods and guarantee the minimum production of basic consumer inputs.
The diagnosis matches the forecasts of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, which described the socio-economic collapse in the occupied territories as one of the sharpest contractions observed at the international level since 1960, deepening the vulnerabilities of the Palestinian people.
