During a special interview on Holy Thursday on the program “A Pulso”, broadcast on Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Jesuit priest Numa Molina reflected on the process of reconciliation in the country. Molina said that the proposal to heal wounds and exclude hate, promoted by the President in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, is having a real impact on the population. When asked if this is the time for forgiveness between sectors with political differences, the clergyman was optimistic, stating: “Of course, we are in that real, true, sincere moment, because I think it is sincere.”
The priest shared his vision of how people with previously irreconcilable positions have begun to come together in common spaces. To deepen this process of union, Molina offered advice based on faith and civic coexistence, suggesting focusing on the virtues of others. “Let us find the good things that unite us and that on that meeting ground... choose the good things that you have in your heart, to share at that dialogue table,” he pointed out as a way to overcome polarization.
In her analysis, Molina also called for empathy to understand the negative attitudes of others, inviting us to see the individual as a product of their own history and context. He explained that violence often stems from past injuries, so he urged Venezuelans to seek the positive in their peers to avoid conflict. According to her vision, understanding that each person “is a child of history... was wounded... and that's the only way you can understand them”, is fundamental to building lasting peace.
Finally, Father Numa contrasting exclusionary visions of divinity with the concept of a “Liberating God” who imposes no prerequisites for love and acceptance. He rejected the idea of an entity that seeks the survival of some over the other, defending instead a life project based on universal brotherhood. “The God who is not asking me for a purity card in order to receive me, that God becomes a meeting ground, it is Jesus who always wants us to love each other,” he concluded, reaffirming that unconditional love is the central axis for the future of harmony in Venezuela.
