The production of white corn in Venezuela exceeded one million tons this year, after the planting of about 200,000 hectares, which will guarantee the supply of pre-cooked flour for the next 10 months, said the president of the Confederation of Agricultural Producers Associations (FEDEAGRO), Osman Quero.

In statements collected by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), Quero noted that, in total, around 325,000 hectares of corn were planted this year. At the same time, he specified that, in the case of yellow corn, production will cover domestic demand for approximately five months.

“This supplies the Venezuelan market for precooked flour in at least 10 months. In the case of yellow corn, at least we are going to have a national supply guarantee of about five months,” he said.

The representative of FEDEAGRO indicated that, despite the effects of the El Súper Niño weather phenomenon, planting levels in the country's main agricultural states have remained above 90%. “We really have a harvest to offer,” he said.

Quero also reported that the sector is waiting for meetings with the authorities to discuss the electricity supply, because grain reception and conditioning plants require continuous service during harvest. In addition, he recalled that the drying processes of corn and rice cannot be interrupted.
