The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, expressed his gratitude to his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, for his strong support for Venezuela and his opposition to the colonialist attitude of the United States.
Gil explained that, in Lavrov's statements, “the unacceptable imposition of puppet leaders in countries that defend sovereign and anti-imperialist projects” stands out.
Foreign Minister Lavrov, when consulted by journalists about Edmundo González's tour backed by the United States and its allied countries, stated that “the West feels intoxicated by its' greatness', believing that it has impunity and the self-granted right to decide on the future of all peoples of the world. This doesn't just happen in Latin America, not just in Venezuela, and it's not just a question of Juan Guaidó or Edmundo González.”
Lavrov noted that the “contemptuous attitude” of Western countries reflects their “presumption” and “contempt for the rest of the world”. In this context, the Russian Foreign Minister denounced that, for the West, “democracy means only one thing: to do what they please. It's a blatant statement,” he emphasized.
