The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, this Thursday, January 15, stressed that the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) has highlighted the urgent need for States to implement a legal framework that respects the basic principles of the Charter of this body.

This was stated by Gil, his account on the social network Telegram, in which he referred to a publication of a United Nations report.

In this regard, the foreign minister, in his message, said that “in addition, the UN Special Rapporteur, Morris Tidball-Binz, in his report to the General Assembly, urged the United States to respect international law”.

He added that the UN also stated that the United States must “stop the unjustified use of force both inside and outside its borders, in connection with the murder of a U.S. citizen on January 7 by immigration officers, a case that illustrates the systematic violation of human rights suffered by thousands of migrants in that country.”

He also stressed that “this is particularly relevant in view of the unilateral and illegal use of force by the United States against Venezuela, which has resulted in more than one hundred deaths and in the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, as well as the illegal bombings in the Caribbean and the Pacific that have left a tragic toll of more than one hundred dead, described as extrajudicial executions by the UN ”.
