The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, during his speech at the Meeting
of Parliamentarians of the Greater Caribbean for Peace, held from the
spaces of the National Assembly (AN), highlighted the responsibility of
peoples to speak out against imperialism.
“It is our responsibility to keep
the voice of these peoples active, the active mobilization to demand an end to
aggressions, not only aggressions, military presence, but all kinds of
decisions that they have wanted to impose on them and that allow us the peoples of the Caribbean to follow the path of definitive liberation,
the path of the will that
each of these peoples has given themselves to build an independent destiny.”
In this regard, the Meeting
mentioned that Parliamentarians of the Greater Caribbean for Peace is of special
importance because they represent the voice of peoples against aggression, “the
vast majority of the governments of our community of Latin American
and Caribbean States have raised their voices, have asked that aggressions cease, have asked that international law be respected,
that the sovereignty of peoples be respected, that the Charter of Nations be respected
United (...) In other words, we are
defending what the majorities ask for, the great majorities, what the
majority of the peoples of our America demand.”
He also warned that the threats from the United States rest only on Venezuela, but that they affect the entire region, “today we are facing the most serious action, not because of the consequences it could have on the Bolivarian Revolution and on the destiny decided by the Venezuelan people (...) It would not be Venezuela that would pay the most regrettable consequences of intervention of this type; we are talking about neighboring countries: Colombia, the Caribbean, Brazil, Guyana itself and Trinidad and Tobago, the one whose Prime Minister threatens us and has raised the position of constant war against Venezuela, even against its own people, would suffer the most tragic consequences of any intervention.”
