The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, signed the book of condolences this Thursday at the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, before the physical departure of the Secretary General of the Communist Party of the Asian nation, Nguyen Phu Trong, on July 19.
At the diplomatic headquarters in Caracas, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, on behalf of the Bolivarian Government and the people, praised the Vietnamese leader as a great promoter of relations of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries.
Upon hearing the news of Phu Trong's death, President Nicolás Maduro described him as “a great friend of our country, a tireless fighter for his people and an intellectual guide to the great transformations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”. In addition, he expressed solidarity with the Vietnamese people, with whom “we are always united in cooperation and brotherhood”.
In addition, in a statement, the Government of Venezuela expressed its respect and admiration for the socialist leader, “who during his long political career demonstrated his dedication, experience and invaluable commitment to the maintenance of political stability, the protection of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity” of his country.
Nguyen Phu Trong, who died on July 19 at the age of 80, took over the reins of the Communist Party in 2011, leaving a great legacy for the new socialist generations.
