The former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley, criticized the position taken by the head of government, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, considering that it places the country in a situation of dependence on the United States and compromises constitutional principles and national sovereignty.

“For the prime minister and her inept government to reduce us to a vassal state, receiving secret instructions from another country and issuing alarmist warnings that we must 'behave good' so as not to offend the United States and lose access to American visas, is equivalent to having shattered our Constitution,” said the former prime minister.

Rowley criticized the fact that the Government is moving away from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to favor the guidelines of foreign powers, calling it a risk to regional cohesion and the country's political stability.

He also questioned the lack of clarity in the agreements signed with the US authorities and the absence of public explanations on the part of Persad-Bissessar, despite the fact that it has a large parliamentary majority.

Rowley warned that this situation jeopardizes the political future of Trinidad and Tobago and called for correcting the course to avoid further repercussions on institutions.
