The Louvre Museum was closed this Sunday after an audacious robbery occurred at its facilities, according to the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati.
“This morning there was a robbery at the opening of the Louvre Museum,” the official said on her social networks, adding that no injuries were reported and that investigations were ongoing.
The Sputnik news agency explained that the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, provided details about the event and explained that three people participated in the assault.
Namely, those responsible for the incident used a grinder to break the side windows, and two of them entered the museum, while a third waited outside. After stealing the valuables, they fled on motorcycles to the
A6 highway, completing the operation in just seven minutes.
Minister Dati described the event as “a painful blow to French heritage” and assured that the Government would reinforce security in the country's main museums.
