France is experiencing a tense social situation, during a massive day of protests last Thursday, half a million people took to the streets, according to the police. The General Confederation of Labour (CGT) and other unions have issued an ultimatum to the government of Emmanuel Macron and the Cabinet of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
The eight representative trade union federations warned this Friday that, if the Executive does not respond to their demands between now and September 24, they will quickly call for a new day of strikes and demonstrations.
“The ball is now in the Prime Minister's court,” said Thomas Vacheron, confederal secretary of the CGT, according to information reported by Telesur.
The conflict has its origin in the draft budgets designed by the former head of government, François Bayrou, whose term of office collapsed after a motion of confidence motivated precisely by these measures.
