The General Directorate of the Office of Citizen Services (OAC) of the Ministry of Popular Power of Urban Agriculture (MINPPAU) and the Foundation for Training and Innovation to Support the Agrarian Revolution (CIARA), paid a visit to the Fabricio Ojeda Endogenous Development Center (Nudefo), where they shared with various organizations of adults and older adults, in order to learn about their agro-urban experience.
In this regard, Olga Carrasco, founder of the aforementioned space and one of the first beneficiaries of the Vuelvan Caras Mission, stressed that her agricultural experience allowed her to build, together with her partners and partners, a production cooperative, incorporating social tourism, ecology, culture and recreation, and in addition, Commander Hugo Chávez had the opportunity to share these scenarios:
“I am proud to say that Nudefo has been a productive reference for the Bolivarian Revolution. We had wonderful experiences with leaders from other countries such as Fidel Castro, Evo Morales, Rafael Correa, Néstor Kirchner, Daniel Ortega... Even ambassadors and international organizations have been familiar with our work!” , said the interviewee.
In addition, Carrasco also said that Chávez supported them in the construction of houses in Fabricio Ojeda and urged them to conquer spaces for planting. “I fell in love with this agricultural project 15 years ago and we continue to work with determination and without letting our guard down. This is our world! Fabricio Ojeda's Grandmothers and Grandparents Front is kneeling on the ground, guaranteeing sovereignty and food security to communities!” , he said.
Love and perseverance
Julio Guerra, a member of the Cuba-Venezuela Agreement, commented that since 2014, he has been training the organized communities of the Sucre parish and is responsible for agri-food programs, and helping to build socio-productive projects, to work with quality. “In small spaces it can be produced, with love and perseverance being the main tools.”
He stressed that he has shared these experiences with the Nudefo Grandmothers and Grandparents Front and added that 80% of the agricultural workers who live in this space are elderly people. “These grandparents have the energy to produce. They are the soul and the engine of Fabricio Ojeda,” Guerra said.
Finally, Naysurime Medina, director of the OAC of the MINPPAU, said that the Grandmothers and Grandparents Front will also receive certificates as a Productive Agrourban Movement, and that later more organized grandmothers and grandparents from other parishes in the west of the city will be concentrated.
Medina pointed out that a dietary and medicinal recipe book is planned with the experiences and contributions of older adults at Nudefo: “We are going to systematize these experiences, because the contributions of these grandmothers and grandparents are necessary.”
