FUNVISIS expanded earthquake monitoring in Zulia with high-tech equipment

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS), in coordination with the Presidential Commission, installed a new accelerograph in the state of Zulia, which is a high-precision electronic device that measures and records the acceleration of soil or structures during strong movement.

The equipment was installed in the spaces of the Regional Directorate of Civil Protection of Zulia, the device will help to accurately assess the impact of earthquakes and make quick and timely decisions to safeguard lives.

The head of the Operational Zone for Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (ZOEDAN Zulia), attached to the National Directorate of Civil Protection, Ramón Mavárez, explained that the accelerograph performs the function of monitoring seismic behavior in the territory in real time, making it possible to activate early warning systems aimed at ensuring the protection of families in the region.

He announced the installation of new accelerographs in the same city of Maracaibo and the Perijá subregion, to monitor earthquake movements in real time.

“This cutting-edge technology allows us to activate early alerts and help our people in a timely manner,” he said.
