Venezuela is promoting comprehensive scientific research to study the tectono-sedimentary and ecological and ecological state of its archipelagos and islands, said the Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, through her Telegram channel.

“Protecting our reefs is protecting national sovereignty,” he emphasized.

The minister stressed that the study covers Bird Island, Los Roques, La Blanquilla and Morrocoy National Park, coral reef areas of strategic importance for the country.

Jiménez explained that scientific teams integrate geology, geochemistry and biology to analyze the evolution of these ecosystems in the face of the global climate crisis, rising sea levels, ocean acidification and coral bleaching.

“Generating our own knowledge allows us to anticipate, plan and act on a scientific basis to protect our seas,” he said.

He stressed that the research strengthens land management and reaffirms Venezuela's rights to its islands, archipelagos and maritime spaces.
