The National Art Gallery (GAN) opened its doors to the photo exhibition Kueka: Guardians of Ancestral Memory, which will be open to the public until July.

This exhibition invites the population to learn about the fascinating history and heritage of the heritage of the Venezuelan Pemón Taurepán tribe. In addition, it pays homage to the struggle of this people for the repatriation of the Kueka stone, an ancient sacred stone, recovered in 2020 after being illegally extracted from Canaima in 1998.

The exhibition focuses on the perseverance of the Pemón community and the importance of cultural justice and the preservation of collective memory.

Kueka is a 300-ton jasper stone that has a special meaning for the Pemón people, who consider it a person converted into stone.

The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, during the +Culture segment of the Con Maduro+ program, stressed that the return of grandmother Kueka to her grandfather's side in the Gran Sabana “means the balance of the universe”.
