From New York, where he is participating in the 80th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, denounced that the military presence of the United States (US) in the Caribbean responds to geopolitical interests hidden under the false argument of the “fight” against drug trafficking.
The diplomat stressed that this action not only affects Venezuela, but also compromises the stability of Latin America and the Caribbean and warned that the narrative used by Washington seeks to justify an operation that, far from combating transnational crimes, seeks to exert pressure on sovereign nations.
“An attempt is being made to normalize a threat that transcends our borders,” he said, stressing that this deployment of imperialism is a strategy to impose control over the region's natural resources.
Gil recalled that Venezuela has faced a policy of systematic aggression for more than two decades, including economic sanctions, financial blockades and disinformation campaigns. In this context, he pointed out that the current military movement is part of a logic of domination that violates principles of international law.
