Global Times newspaper: BRICS countries are making progress in creating a multipolar world

According to an editorial in the Chinese newspaper 'Global Times', the accession of nine countries as BRICS partners as of January 1, 2025 “marks another milestone in the development” of the group.

“With the growth of a larger group, the BRICS not only gain a stronger presence in the economy, but they also play an increasingly important role in advancing the creation of a multipolar world,” the editorial notes.

The director of the Institute of Developing Countries of the Institute of International Studies of China, Wang Youming, told the media that the inclusion of these nine countries as partners highlights the growing momentum of the global movement to reform an unjust and inequitable international order, in particular as a result of the collective rise of the Global South.

According to the Chinese website, quoted by Sputnik, the expansion of the BRICS has triggered alerts from the Western press, which has tried to rival the group with the hegemonic powers.
