The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Raúl Cazal, participated this Tuesday in the farewell of the singer-songwriter Gloria Martín, an emblematic figure of the Necessary Song and of critical thinking in the country.
During the ceremony, family, friends and relatives paid tribute to the artist with the interpretation of her most representative themes. The event also posthumously awarded the Waraira Repano Order in its First Class, a distinction awarded by the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, in recognition of her career and contribution to Venezuelan culture.
Cazal highlighted Martín's legacy as a reference for popular and fighting music. “It is a voice with which many of us feel identified, because it represented the causes of an era that are still in force,” he said, while recalling his link with exponents such as Ali Primera and groups committed to the cultural movement.
He also extended the invitation to the “Cantata by Gloria Martín”, which will take place this April 22 in the Ríos Reyna room of the Teresa Carreño Theater, where artists and groups will participate to pay homage to her life and work.
For his part, Tarek William Saab highlighted the depth of his compositions and their impact on collective memory. “There is a spectacular song called 'Bandoleros', as well as a piece by Santiago Villar that pays homage to those who escaped from the San Carlos Barracks. These compositions have become hymns. The cantata to Fabricio Ojeda, whose cover shows him with a gun, has become a symbol for all revolutionaries in Venezuela and Latin America. Today we pay honor and glory to Gloria Martín, and may her memory last forever,” he said.
The Ministry of Culture reaffirmed that Gloria Martín's work remains a pillar of national identity and a reference for new generations.
