The price of gold futures on the COMEX exchange (Commodity Exchange Inc.), the world's leading exchange for precious metals, reached a new historic record, exceeding $5,400 per troy ounce, reports the specialized portal Investing this Wednesday quoted by the media outlet Russia Today.
“This peak comes under the impetus of growing global uncertainty, which makes gold a safe haven for investors. The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, recently explained at an event in Brussels that this escalation reflects the “new normal” of uncertainty. In times of volatility, according to the economist, markets rely on what is best known: gold, which has been functioning as a reliable reserve for many centuries,” the Russian portal reported.
Other media report that gold prices soared to an all-time high above $5,500 an ounce on Wednesday afternoon, extending their recent run after a report that U.S. President Donald Trump was considering a new attack against Iran.
