The Government of Bolivia declared an orange alert in 74 municipalities due to the increasing risk of forest fires.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister of Civil Defense, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, warned that the situation is critical and that the risks come mainly from practices in rural areas.
He explained that these fires are caused by arson and “cheating” (practices for preparing land for crops).
As published by the Xinhua portal, the department of Santa Cruz is the most affected with 42 municipalities on alert.
He called on citizens to be preventive because fires not only devastate the environment, but also endanger the lives of rural communities.
